The Presuppositions of NLP are a set of convenient beliefs or assumptions that, if you adopt them, make you more likely to create better results in your life. They are not presented as absolute truths — rather, they are frames of mind that increase flexibility, resourcefulness and effectiveness.
- Everyone has a unique model of the world
- Respect other people's model of the world
- The map is not the territory
- People are not their behaviours
- Behaviours should be evaluated in terms of context and ecology
- All behaviour has a positive intention
- The most important thing about a person is their behaviour
- Everyone has all the resources they need to get what they want
- You cannot not communicate
- The meaning of your communication is the response you get
- There is no failure, only feedback
- If what you are doing is not working, do something different
- The person with the most flexibility of behaviour controls the system
- Mind and body are part of the same system
- People make the best choices available to them given their model of the world
