The Keys to Achievable Outcomes is an NLP framework for setting well-formed goals. Unlike simple goal setting, it checks that an outcome is genuinely obtainable, ecological, and self-sustaining.
- State it in the positive, as if now — what do you want? (not what you don't want)
- Where are you now? — establish the present state
- Be specific — what will you see, hear, feel, notice and say to yourself when you get there?
- Evidence procedure — how will you know when you have achieved it?
- Is it congruent? — does every part of you want this?
- What will this do for you or allow you to do? — what is the deeper purpose?
- Is it just for you? — can you initiate and maintain it yourself?
- Context — where, when, how and with whom do you want this?
- Is it self-initiating and self-maintaining? — does it depend only on you?
- Check ecology — is it congruently desirable? What will happen if you do or don't get this outcome?
- Is it achievable? — do you have, or can you get, the resources needed?
