If you are under 26, you have probably spent a decade getting an education or getting skilled up and you have come out the other end and now worry about your future. You are not alone. To be honest these are concerning times for Millennials. It’s the first time you have found yourself in a recession (that you can remember), and unless you have found your passion and have found a way to make a decent living from it, you may be feeling pretty stuck.
I’m guessing you don’t want a boring desk job, right? and you certainly don’t aspire to working in a call centre? So, what’s the right choice?
Check the list:
• I am making a difference
• I am in control of my destiny
• I am recognised
• I am doing something that has meaning
• I am changing peoples lives
• I live an extraordinary life
This life is yours for the taking. I am testimony to this and there is nothing special about me, I just have a lot of talents.
Here is the truth. Your talents come from practicing what you love, from having skills that you hone and improve over time. You don’t have to be perfect but you do need to practice and systemise what you do.
Imagine for a moment that you were in demand and you ticked all the items on the Checklist. What would be the biggest difference? You would be busy. You would have no time. You would be trying to systemise your skills and scale your self by hiring or delegating. But you are not there yet.
Right now, you have time. Use it wisely. Learn to do things fast. Crush hesitation. Develop a sense of urgency. Share what you learn so you have a reference and evidence of your journey when you look back or show others.
Then you talents will flow. It will be come obvious. If you really want to get there fast, then intern for a company. Don’t have any expectations of changing lives or being recognised in the beginning. Learn the art and improve. Patience pays.
Focus on Intentionally getting better every day.
